Biography

Lorelei Mathias is an award-winning Romanian British author, comedy writer, and proudly neurodivergent voice, named after the mythical German mermaid, The Loreley. She’s written for and performed in Green Wing, BBC Radio 4, Pulped.com among others. She has a growing profile as a speaker on female adult ADHD, featured on the BBC and Guardian, with comedy clips that have amassed hundreds of thousands of views.  A 2 X Edinburgh TV Festival finalist for her comedy pilots Batshit & Life in ADHD, Lorelei has been making award-winning comedy about characters living with ADHD, which have appeared on multiple BBC channels, the BBC New Comedy Awards finals, and been sponsored by British Comedy Guide Pro. She also recently had another break-up – in Brighton, UK this time – but was rescued right back by the fourth emergency service (the real life Break-Up Club WhatsApp group). She studied English & Philosophy at Birmingham University before working as a copywriter in London. Her debut novel, Step on it, Cupid, was published at 25, translated into 6 languages and featured on The Today Programme, followed by Lost for Words and a slew of non-fiction essays in various anthologies.

Her creative work spans multiple mediums, including a poem exhibited at the V&A/Museum of Childhood. Recognised as a pioneer for having one of the “best YouTube trailers for a book, ever,” which won a Book Marketing Society Award and led to talks at London Book Fair, she has contributed to books and articles on online marketing for authors. With The Break-Up Club, Mathias delivers her most personal and resonant work yet. A story born from lived experience, brimming with humour, heartbreak, and in a time when it’s all too easy to despair – hope.
